A few years ago, I began working with Brittany to build up some strength in my new hip, while guiding her through her first pregnancy with prenatal yoga. Stepping in to help out when she was on maternity leave with her first and second pregnancy was great. I forgot how much I enjoyed Personal Training. It is the perfect mix with my 20 plus years of yoga teaching. Having 2 modalities to use in working with clients to help them achieve their goals is the best job ever. Now that I am more involved in B Balanced, I am regularly accepting new Personal Training clients and I am so excited to work with all of you! So if you are looking for a way to build strength and flexibility, call and let’s get started.

Sometimes finding time to get in a work out seems impossible; the kids are pulling you in a million directions, work has your bogged down, and there are just not enough hours in the day! However, I PROMISE you that if you really try you can find 30 minutes to get SOMETHING in! If you can’t carve out 30 minutes for yourself, find something that you can do with the kids…go for a walk or run with them in a jogger, run around with them while they ride their tricycles or do squats as you push them on the swing….and when all else fails place your baby on your yoga mat and give lots of kisses during vinyasas! Whatever you do, whether it is 5, 30 or 60 minutes you will feel much better, so take care of you and make time for exercise and health!
PS…you can always bring your kids to your Personal Training session at B Balanced…clearly we welcome babies (toddlers and more!),Foster would love a playmate one day! Call today to schedule your appointment! 843-833-1998

Rustic Tomato Basil Tart
1 1/2 pounds medium yellow tomatoes, cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices
1 1/2 pounds medium red tomatoes, cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices
1 1/2 teaspoons salt, divided
1 cup fresh corn kernels (about 2 ears)
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
3 tablespoons fat-free sour cream
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup yellow cornmeal
1/4 cup chilled butter, cut into small pieces
1 tablespoon yellow cornmeal
1/2 cup thinly sliced fresh basil, divided
1/3 cup (1 1/2 ounces) shredded fontina cheese
1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon cracked black pepper
Arrange tomato slices in a single layer on several layers of paper towels; sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon salt. Let stand 20 minutes; blot dry with paper towels.
Preheat oven to 400°.
Place corn, juice, and sour cream in a food processor or blender; process until smooth. Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 1/4 cup cornmeal, and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a large bowl; stir with a whisk. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add corn mixture; stir until a soft dough forms. Knead gently 3 or 4 times.
Slightly overlap 2 (16-inch) sheets of plastic wrap on a slightly damp surface. Place dough on plastic wrap; press into a 6-inch circle. Cover with 2 additional (16-inch) sheets of overlapping plastic wrap. Roll dough, still covered, into a 14-inch circle; place on a large baking sheet in freezer 10 minutes or until plastic wrap can be easily removed. Line baking sheet with parchment paper; sprinkle paper with 1 tablespoon cornmeal. Remove 2 sheets of plastic wrap from dough. Place dough, plastic wrap side up, on baking sheet. Remove top sheets of plastic wrap.
Combine 1/4 cup basil, cheese, and oregano. Combine 2 tablespoons flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Arrange cheese mixture on dough, leaving a 1 1/2-inch border. Using a sifter or sieve, sift 1 tablespoon flour mixture over cheese mixture. Arrange half of tomatoes over cheese mixture. Sift remaining flour mixture over tomatoes; top with remaining tomatoes. Fold edges of dough toward center; press to seal (dough will only partially cover tomatoes). Bake at 400° for 35 minutes or until crust is brown; let stand 10 minutes. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup basil and pepper.

For healthy treat…
Get Your Smoothie On!
Spring Detox Smoothie:
– 3 Stalks of Kale
– 2 Stalks of Celery
– 1 Lime
– 1 Apple
– 1 Cucumber
– 1 Drop Cilantro essential oil
We all know how great smoothies are for a meal replacement, snack, or post workout supplement. Steer clear of pre-made smoothies from the grocery store which can be high in sugar, and low in nutrients.
Here are some tips for making these at home more, well… smoothly
1. Upgrade your Yogurt.
Substitute low or fat free Greek yogurt instead of sweetened vanilla yogurt. Save sugar and calories, while adding protein. Just check the nutrition facts and ingredients to make sure that they didn’t sneak in any extras.
2. Try a stick blender.
As opposed to a conventional blender, you are mixing everything right in the cup you will be drinking out of. You’ll can have better portion control. (and you don’t have to wash that giant blender!)
We like Cuisinart Stick Blender, which you can find at Kohl’s for about $40.
3. Mix it up.
Buy lots of very ripe fresh fruit, eat what you can while it’s still good. But right before it’s too ripe, cut it in small pieces and freeze it on a baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper. Take all your little frozen fruit bits and make different blends (tropical, berry, strawberry-banana, etc) and put in ziploc bags and keep frozen until you are ready to use them. This give you awesome fresh fruits, plus cutting them in smaller pieces makes blending a quick and easy.

I graduated from the Atlanta School of Massage in March of 1995 and what a ride. I have taken continuing education classes in Austria, Vermont and Florida. I started doing nothing but sports massage and deep tissue therapy. I quickly learned how repetitive motion can cause stress to the tendons and joints of the fingers, wrists, elbows and shoulders. Fortunately, I had already started practicing Yoga and realized how beneficial it was for my body. It has also been a wonderful adjunct to my therapy in helping people how to breath correctly and stretch themselves. I am so blessed to have a thriving practice of 20 years. I am pain free and I continue to be flexible. I am also one of the exceptions. Many massage therapist have short careers, due to their own injuries. I contribute my longevity to my Yoga Practice. I was so interested, that I received my Yoga teacher training in 2003. My love and practice of Yoga has supported me many times in my life and career. It has deepened my spirituality as well. People always say to me “I am not flexible enough to do Yoga”. My answer is, you have to start somewhere. I teach beginners, gentle and Restorative Yoga. I love the therapeutic benefits and incorporate my dual training to Private Yoga and Yoga therapy. One common belief of all ancient Yogi’s is that we age in our spine. We have 72,000 nerve endings coming off of our spine and it’s flexibility and health is vital. Yoga is also extremely beneficial to injury recovery as well. At B Balanced we offer 8 different Yoga classes to choose from as well as personal training, nutrition and fitness classes. Check out our schedule to start your wellness journey today . Namaste
Before there were organized yoga classes, yoga was taught by one teacher to one student. Ancient yoga masters understood the importance of tailoring each yoga experience to meet the individual needs of the student. Today, a private session allows for a more intimate view into your personal practice. You can start a new practice as a beginner, deepen your practice spiritually and physically, or spend some time working with an injury or condition you may be facing. When you work with a teacher in a one on one setting, the teacher is able to help you experience the benefits of yoga in a safe, effective, and personal way.
Due to its specific nature, Private Yoga is an invaluable tool for yoga students of all levels and experience. Private lessons provide the perfect setting to address your personal goals and work on areas of individual interest. You can work with the teacher of your choice or we can place you with a teacher that will best meet your expressed needs. Private Yoga can help you deepen your yoga practice, gain confidence, answer questions and provide personal guidance. Our teachers can even help you develop a home practice designed to meet your individual needs.
WHY TAKE A PRIVATE CLASS?
For new students
Beginning yoga students may be intimidated by the public yoga class environment. Private classes allow teachers the opportunity to focus on you and your body, the teacher can make sure you are getting off to a strong start in your practice by helping you with safe and proper alignment. Private yoga instruction helps you to learn basic skills which allow you to easily integrate into our daily group classes.
For more experienced students
Experienced students benefit from private sessions as well. As an experienced yogi, you are able to have a deeper insight into specific postures or specific styles of yoga that interest you. Our teachers can help you with posture alignment, challenging postures that you may be stumped on, modifications that can further your practice and keep you pain free, and they can help you establish a balanced home practice. Private yoga classes can also provide the experienced student time to learn about yoga philosophy, meditation, and breathing practices.
